Money for Nothing
Here’s something to think about in great detail.
From matthewgood.org:
“There is no doubt that those most seriously affected by Hurricane Katrina lived below the poverty line and need serious assistance. The images of devastation and tragedy that have been beamed around the world this last week have influenced people from all walks of life in other countries to give what they can. And while I think it encouraging to see, I want to point something out.
The US accounts for half of the world’s total military expenditures, with Americans annually contributing roughly $1400 dollars each towards national defense spending, a figure that dwarfs any other nation. The United States will spend in excess of $400 billion dollars on defense in 2005, not including the $80 billion dollar supplemental that President Bush asked Congress for and got.
Americans need to seriously address this massive imbalance. If social programs, such as education and healthcare, are not considered a greater priority than national defense then the question must be asked - what is ultimately being protected?”
Ready? No Aim. FIRE!
