Favor

I’ve had more on my mind lately than ever before. It’s unprecedented. I never thought that the future would move you backwards. But this is life in 2005. And I live everyday with the war in Iraq, Sudan, Poverty, Hurricane Katrina, and the U.S. never off my mind for a second. So, I’m going to do everyone on here a favor...

I’m telling you right now to get off your ass and start giving a shit. Start paying attention to your surroundings. Start caring about something other than what you know. Lend a helping hand to someone who has a different skin color than your own. Read books that you aren’t told about in school. Venture outside your own country (if your blessed enough to do so) and really breathe in the air of that foreign land as if it were your own. Familiarize yourself with other cultures and study their history as well as your own. Turn on the news!! Be it the BBC, ABC, MSNBC (NOT FOXNEWS) etc. Listen and absorb. Start discussing topics that really matter and leave the fucking mall and your ridiculous designer clothes back home where they belong. Stop watching MTV and VH1. They should ultimately be your absolute last guide for advice on anything. If you want advice, seek a stable adult, be it a writer, musician, friend, or relative, who has been around the block a few times. Take school seriously!! Leave the weed, beer and stupid petty click bullshit back at the mall where you found out about it. Go to college far away from home. But don’t forget to visit the stable adult fitting the bill (if your blessed enough to have one in your life) once and a while. And never ever under any circumstance let anyone use you. For anything!! The bigger picture will eventually be seen as long as you take the first step and follow it with another.

My 24th birthday is in two days and I’m just starting to take the second step. Thank God for stable adults.
